BOTOX® Cosmetic

Some of the first signs of aging appear on the face as “dynamic wrinkles,” the lines and creases caused by repeated muscle contractions such as smiling and squinting. Safe and effective, BOTOX Cosmetic helps you look younger by fading dynamic wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Evan Sorokin uses BOTOX at his New Jersey practice to give patients exceptional facial rejuvenation without surgery. Request a consultation with Dr. Sorokin or call our office in Cherry Hill.

Benefits of BOTOX Treatments

Our New Jersey and Philadelphia patients choose BOTOX treatments to treat a variety of common trouble spots, such as:

  • Small wrinkles or “crow’s feet” around the eyes
  • Vertical “frown lines” between the eyebrows
  • Botox is particularly good for areas in the upper third of the face
  • Botox does very little for lines below the cheeks, in these areas fillers are the best option.

BOTOX treatments are effective on their own for smoothing out wrinkles.

How it Works

This treatment works by temporarily altering the facial muscles beneath the skin that form dynamic wrinkles on the surface. Once injected into precise areas of facial muscles, impulses from the nerves to the facial muscles are blocked. As a result, the underlying facial muscles relax and the skin gradually smoothes out. Most patients notice improvement within 3 to 5 days and reach the maximum improvement within a few weeks.

The effects of treatment will last approximately 3 to 6 months, after which many patients choose to return to Dr. Sorokin for a touch-up procedure.

How much Botox is needed?

The product insert for Botox says that most people will require 20 units of Botox to treat between the eyebrows. In addition, 12 units is the recommended dose for the crow’s feet next to each eye.  This is a total of 44 units for the average patient according to the product insert guide published by Allergan. Some patients need more, and some a little less. Use too little Botox and either there will be little results or it will not last long enough. Botox is purchased by the unit, with cost per unit varying from doctor’s office to doctor’s office.  We charge $12.50 per unit of Botox and on the Third Thursday of every month have a Botox Event where it is offered for $11 per unit.

Botox® Cosmetic versus Dysport® versus Xeomin®

All three of these products are neurotoxins used for facial rejuvenation.   Botox is onabotulinumtoxinA.  This is the most widely used product in the United States.  Dysport is abobotulinumtoxinA.  This is a similar chemical to Botox that also is used for temporarily minimizing wrinkles on the face.  Finally, Xeomin is incobotulinumtoxinA.  Once again this is a product used for cosmetic purposes to minimize small muscles in the face from producing wrinkling.

So, which is better?  Every physician that uses these products has their own preferences.  Dr. Sorokin feels that Botox Cosmetic is the gold standard for other toxins to be compared.  He has used it in thousands of patients and gets great, predictable results with Botox.  He stocks both Dysport and Xeomin in the office as occasionally a patient will request one of the other products having used it elsewhere.  While Botox costs more to purchase from Allergan than the other products do, it is very predictable and produces a nice consistent result.  Dr. Sorokin has used all three toxins on many patients and in his experience feels that Dysport diffuses somewhat more and results may not be as precise.  He furthermore believes that Xeomin is not as strong as Botox and does not last as long unless much more product is used.  Other docs may feel differently but this is his opinion.  While profit margin is higher on Dysport and Xeomin, Dr. Sorokin does not feel that this is a good reason to use them.  Thus, we use Botox unless specifically asked to use a different neurotoxin by a patient.

Simple Treatments

Our BOTOX treatments are so popular because they are safe, quick, and effective. Dr. Sorokin will place an anesthetic cream on your skin prior to treatment. He then injects small amount of BOTOX into the area of the targeted wrinkles, and immediately applies ice when the entire process is complete.

You should avoid engaging in heavy physical exercise, applying cosmetics, or laying down flat for at least 4 hours after the injections. You should also to avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area for at least 24 hours.
