Though you feel young on the inside, are you frustrated by dull, lifeless skin, wrinkles, or other flaws caused by aging and exposure to the elements? A chemical peel can help New Jersey women and men reveal more vibrant skin layers and encourage the growth of fresh, revitalized surface skin. We offer this and other effective medical spa treatments that can refresh your appearance without surgery.
Benefits of Chemical Peels
By removing the dull, dry outer layers of skin a chemical peel can improve the look of your face in many ways, which include:
- Reducing facial wrinkles and lines
- Improving sun-damaged skin
- Correcting age spots and pigmentation problems
- Lightening scars, especially those caused by acne
- Treating precancerous skin lesions
During your consultation you will meet with our aesthetician Dayna who will discuss various options for chemical peels and skincare. Low level peels are performed by our aesthetician and deep chemical peels requiring anesthesia are performed by Dr. Sorokin.
What level of Chemical Peel?
There are many different types of chemical peels and depending on the level of the peel recovery and results will vary. Our aesthetician will meet with you in consultation to discuss options and goals. Light chemical peels are performed by our aesthetician Dayna with slight redness and peeling during recovery while more aggressive peels by Dr. Sorokin will result in a more significant recovery and stronger result. Often a series of lighter peels over many weeks can be used to prepare the skin for a more aggressive peel.
Before your chemical peel, any active skin disease, infection, or acne needs to be under control in order to maximize results. There are several different types of chemical solutions that can be used, ranging from a mild solution to a very strong one. We will assist you in selecting what is best for you based on skin condition, skin color, and desired result. Chemical peels may not be appropriate for darker skin complexions.
Recovery after a Chemical Peel
Recovery regimens will differ based on what type of peel was performed. For lighter peels a simple moisturizer and sunscreen may be recommended. For deeper peels, ointment and dressings applied immediately following your chemical peel aid in the healing process and minimize swelling. Your skin may have a pinkish color for a limited time afterwards, and a thin crust may form over the area that was treated. Any discomfort following the procedure can be managed with over-the-counter medication. Complications are rare, but you should follow directions carefully to minimize risk. Recovery time will vary depending on the extent of the chemical peel.
