Thighplasty – Thigh Lift
After a large amount of weight loss, excess skin can be the final barrier to a full transformation. A thigh lift for the inner and outer thighs can be especially revitalizing. During thighplasty surgery, the excess skin and tissue will be removed from the thighs and the remaining skin and tissue is contoured and tightened for toned and sculpted thighs. Dr. Evan Sorokin, a plastic surgeon in New Jersey, performs a thigh lift that restores natural-looking curves to the lower body.
The goal of a thighplasty is to tighten and enhance the inner thighs, outer thighs, or both. Dr. Sorokin will make an incision along the natural crease at the top of the thigh and continue the incision down the inner thigh. He may first use liposuction to remove any pockets of fat that exist in the area. Then, excess tissue is taken from the top of the inner thigh and the remaining tissue is contoured before the skin is pulled tight and the incision is closed.
Many patients combine a thigh lift with a butt lift for a tightened lower body. An outer thigh lift will have the best results if the butt is lifted as well for an even appearance.
A typical thigh lift surgery is performed with the patient under general anesthesia in Dr. Sorokin’s onsite accredited surgical facility. The surgery takes 2-3 hours to complete if performed alone and patients are able to leave the same day as the surgery. Patients should expect to spend 6-8 weeks in recovery following Dr. Sorokin’s postoperative care instructions. The surgical incisions will leave scars, so it is important that the patient is vigilant about proper care so the scar will heal cleanly.

The upper legs are a common area for visible cellulite. During a thigh lift, the skin is tightened and liposuction may be used on fat deposits, which will smooth unsightly cellulite and other flaws in the upper legs.

A thigh lift is an invasive procedure, so patients should allow as much time as possible after the surgery to rest and recover. Light activity can be resumed 3-4 weeks after the surgery, but exercise and other heavy activities should be avoided until 6-8 weeks after the surgery. Lower body strength training moves, such as lunges and squats, cannot be performed until the incisions are healed and Dr. Sorokin has cleared the patient for these exercises.
Patients who adhere to a healthy lifestyle that includes a proper diet and exercise routine will enjoy their surgical results for years. Pregnancy or any additional weight gain after this surgery could compromise the overall surgical effect. It is also advised that patients be at or near their goal weight before surgery.
Before a thigh lift, patients should be at or near a stable healthy weight and not planning any more pregnancies. The results of the thigh lift will last for several years if the patient maintains a healthy lifestyle with proper diet and exercise.
